What Have We Done?

Downtown Ministries Falcons Golf
- Athens

In October 2022, Winning Fore The Kids (WFTK) took significant steps to realize its vision of fostering a love for golf among juniors and creating opportunities for kids who may not have had exposure to the sport. Through a collaborative effort with Downtown Ministries in Athens, GA, WFTK partnered with the DTM Falcons to revive the golf program within their academy and sports initiatives.

The inaugural event, held at A&F Driving Range, provided a unique golf experience for seven kids in grades 3rd through 5th. Since then, on a monthly basis during the spring and fall school months, we’ve transported up to 16 kids to various locations, including Jennings Mill, UGA Golf Course, and Cateechee Golf Club. These generous courses have welcomed us, allowing the children to enjoy a blend of fun and learning about golf and the potential opportunities it offers.

Our appreciation extends to the kind support of courses like Jennings Mill, UGA Golf Course, and Cateechee Golf Club, which enable us to expose children to their facilities. As a special treat for those consistently participating throughout the semester, we organize trips to Top Golf in Buford, GA, offering a unique twist on the game and an additional adventure.

None of this would be possible without the dedication of our volunteers, who selflessly contribute their time to positively impact these kids’ lives. Our mentors go beyond teaching golf skills; they impart valuable life lessons and leadership qualities. The mentors find fulfillment in their service, recognizing it as an opportunity to give back to a game that has enriched their lives.

If you’re interested in becoming a golf mentor in the Athens or Hartwell area, please connect with Winston Gibbs.

Stay tuned for updates as we showcase the incredible accomplishments of these amazing kids.

This past summer marked a significant milestone for Winning Fore The Kids as we proudly hosted our inaugural free golf camp at the picturesque Hartwell Golf Club. Over the course of three days, more than 30 enthusiastic kids, ranging from grades 2nd to 9th, joined us for an unforgettable experience. Our camp was not just about golf; it was a celebration of camaraderie, learning, and personal growth.

The primary focus of the camp was to instill a love for the game while imparting fundamental skills in putting, chipping, and spending quality time at the range. However, beyond the technical aspects of golf, our mission extended to the unique life lessons that this sport has to offer. We believe that golf is more than just a game—it’s a platform for fostering discipline, resilience, and sportsmanship.

One of the distinguishing features of our camp was its inclusivity. We welcomed children of all experience levels and provided equal opportunities, irrespective of their access to golf equipment. This commitment to inclusiveness ensured that every child had the chance to discover the joys of golf and the invaluable lessons it imparts.

Each day concluded with a shared lunch, creating a space for campers to reflect on their experiences and bond with fellow participants. The feedback we received was heartwarming; many campers expressed that the food was a highlight, underscoring the importance of community and shared moments in the overall camp experience.

We extend our deepest gratitude to Hartwell Golf Club for their generous support, providing us with a beautiful setting to nurture young talents. Our dedicated volunteers played a pivotal role in making the camp a success, imparting not only golf skills but also becoming mentors and role models for the children.

None of this would have been possible without the support of our sponsors from the charity tournament. Their contributions paved the way for a memorable and impactful golf camp, leaving a lasting impression on both campers and parents alike. As we look ahead, we are excited to witness the continued development of these young golf enthusiasts and hope to see them make strides in middle and high school golf teams across northeast Georgia. Winning Fore The Kids is committed to creating lasting memories and fostering a love for golf that transcends generations.

What Are We Doing Next?

Adam Morris Memorial Scholarship

In the spring of 2023, Winston Gibbs fulfilled a personal dream by commemorating the life of his childhood best friend, who tragically passed away during their junior year of high school, through The Adam Morris Memorial Scholarship. Winning Fore The Kids proudly awarded two high school senior golfers with $1500 scholarships, supporting their journey into college.

To identify deserving recipients, WFTK collaborated with Hart County Golf coaches and various faculty members, seeking students who not only excelled in golf but also embodied the qualities that Adam Morris personified. The focus was not solely on golf prowess, but on honoring students who shared Adam’s values and spirit. So, who was Adam Morris?

Adam was cherished by family, friends, classmates, and teammates alike. A natural leader, he pursued excellence with a fierce competitive spirit. Adam excelled academically, ranked at the top of his class, and actively participated in community groups through school and church. His magnetic presence lit up any room, and he fearlessly embraced the spotlight. Adam had a unique style, unafraid to be different, and he dreamed of playing collegiate golf. It was evident that he would have been a formidable competitor at that level, with the potential to evolve into a impactful business leader later in life.

As we continue to miss Adam deeply and the joy he brought to life, we pray that the recipients of this award recognize the honor of being connected to such an extraordinary young man. Our hope is that they carry forward Adam’s legacy by honoring his life in all their pursuits. The scholarship will be an annual endeavor, with plans to expand to more schools in northeast Georgia. We cherish and remember you, Adam!

During his time in school, Adam penned a touching poem that beautifully encapsulated his essence.

“I AM”

By Adam Morris

I am smart and strong.

I wonder what college i’ll go to.

I hear my dad say to never give up.

I see rainbows on golden wings.

I want to be the best I can be.

I am smart and strong.

I pretend I’m a pro golfer.

I feel I can touch the sky.

I touch my heart and wonder how long I’ll live.

I worry I’ll die at a young age.

I am smart and strong.

I understand no one is perfect.

I say abuse is wrong.

I dream that the world is a better place.

I try to keep my grades good.

I hope I can make a difference.

I am smart and strong.
